October Update deletes files
A week ago, the Microsoft Windows 10 update started. Users have since reported missing files and programs. Now Microsoft has responded and stopped the update.
Read on to find out the reasons why you shouldn’t install the current Microsoft Windows 10 update at this time.
Microsoft Windows 10 update pauses
After the first users had installed the Microsoft Windows 10 update on their computers, they complained about missing files. In addition, there were problems with the drivers from Intel. Microsoft has now responded to the user complaints and withdrawn the latest update.
The Microsoft Help Page states: “We have paused the rollout of the Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809)”.
Problems with Windows Update
The problems with the Microsoft Windows 10 update are described by a user on Reddit. He specifically warns against the Windows Update. He said that a whole library of files disappeared, but he would have had 60 GB more storage space after the update. At first, the user had believed in compression, but the files were lost.
If you have updated and noticed similar problems, you should contact Microsoft support. If you have already downloaded the update but have not yet installed it, you should not continue. Microsoft is working on solving the problems.
Microsoft Windows 10 Update and Intel
In addition to the missing files, the Microsoft Windows 10 update may cause further problems. So there is a compatibility problem with some drivers from Intel. Display audio device drivers are affected. The result is increased processor utilisation and less battery life.
Intel and Microsoft are silent about exactly what systems are affected. However, Microsoft has already provided the first solution: If you want to install the update manually, you will be warned. Microsoft recommends cancelling the installation.
Manually update the Intel driver
If you want to continue with the Microsoft Windows 10 update, you can manually update the audio device drivers from the Intel side. According to initial information, the Intel audio device drivers with versions 10.25.0.3 to 10.25.0.8 are affected. As soon as you update the graphics driver to version 188.8.131.5286 (or later), you will receive the audio device driver in version 10.25.0.10. Allegedly the installation of the autumn update should not cause any problems afterwards.
